A2RL Autonomous Motorsport Immersive Contribution
The A2RL VR livestream solution was developed by Focal Point VR in 2023-2024 for the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League. The end to end system featuring ultra low latency live stream immersive video and a range of VR playout applications was implemented for the inaugural A2RL race at the Yas Marina F1 circuit in April 2024.

The breath-taking A2RL series kicked off on April 27th, 2024 at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit, where the thrill of autonomous car racing is powered by the latest cutting-edge technology. AI-driven Dallara-built Super Formula cars capable of speeds up to 300 km/h competed for a prize pool of $2.25 million.
The A2RL VR System comprises:
- 8K VR camera system with onboard video processor
- Integrated Radio frequency comms (provided by partner Vislink Technologies)
- On site Live Production Suite
- 16:9 low latency broadcast integration
- Local VIP VR stations
- Local standalone VR Fanzone
- Remove VR applications for Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro
Onboard VR Camera
Based on the IO Industries 8K SDI camera (https://www.ioindustries.com/8ksdi-features) the onboard camera solution is configurable to deliver 4k directly over SDI or using the onboard vision processor to run at 8K and deliver a tiled IP video stream to the RF transmitter.
Vislink’s RF wireless technology provided low-latency video and data communication between the A2RL race cars and their control systems. This project marks a first in motorsport entertainment, allowing racing fans to experience real-time VR views from the cockpit of autonomous race cars directly to their headsets, both onsite and at home.
